Diespeker & Co's bespoke terrazzo installation at the Osh restaurant in Knightsbridge

Precision Patterning

With terrazzo-style tiles very much the flavour of the month, Tile Addict here covers a recent contract featuring the material that has inspired this design thread.  At Osh, UK-based terrazzo experts Diespeker & Co have made a striking contribution to this chic new restaurant in Knightsbridge, one of London’s most prestigious neighbourhoods.

Osh has been designed as a classy destination.  It combines glitz, glamour and exclusivity, with a members area and private dining.  It is billed as a central Asian-inspired restaurant and bar that brings a flavour of The Silk Route to London: an enticing mix of Middle Eastern and Eastern Europe cuisine.

Diespeker contributed a striking bespoke resin terrazzo floor for the bar area.  The brief called for a bold pattern; a range of samples playing with colourways and shapes were created by the bespoke specialists at Diespeker’s Bermondsey factory before the final design was agreed.  This was a rhombus style shape demarked by black resin terrazzo and infilled with a poured cream base with brown aggregate for a very distinct style.

Diespeker prepared the existing ply with a fibreglass layer.  Strips of 90mm bespoke-made black terrazzo were cut to length to form the rhombus pattern.  This was an intricate process as the site team had to ensure that the shapes were regular within the boundaries of the flooring.  Once the shapes were formed, the cream terrazzo was poured in situ.  The team also fixed skirting created from the same black terrazzo as the floor.

The finished floor contributes to the attractive ambience of the bar area, which enjoys subtle hues of brown, grey and copper.
