Original Style's Midnight Blue

Mellifluous Midnight

Midnight Blue has been named Original Style‘s Tile of the Year 2019, following on from last year’s Heath by The Winchester Tile Company.  Given the predominance of blue as the highlight hue of choice at Cersaie, and Ceramics of Italy’s recent identification as The Blues as one of the seven hottest tile trends for 2019, blue really does seem to be confirmed as today’s accent colour of choice.

Reflecting movements in interior design trends, Midnight Blue from Original Style encourages the embrace of darkness.  Its deep, rich colour tones provide a sense of indulgence and, when paired with warm earthy tones, feelings of serenity and calm create a sophisticated sanctuary.  For fellow Tile Addicts that like all the nitty gritty, Midnight Blue is a rectified, glazed, metallic-finish, porcelain tile measuring 1,200 by 600 by 10.5mm.

This shows that Midnight Blue also plays into other features of today’s ceramic tile market, with its large format allowing these metallic-inspired wall tiles to add a dramatic dimension to any space.  Another distinctive element is the tonal variation in each tile that help to generate a moody night sky effect.

Wonderfully versatile with a worn patina, the size and drama of Midnight Blue offer opportunities to introduce feature pieces in non-traditional tile settings.  When teamed with a rustic brick-effect tile, such as Original Styleโ€™s Antico Casale Fumo, warm lighting, and an eclectic mix of contemporary and nomadic inspired decor; this tile design is ideal for creating utterly on-trend earthy, industrial living spaces.  It can also offer hints of decadent luxury when paired with brass taps, or a Crittall-style screen.

Strong, opulence, and decadent, the ethereal textures of Midnight Blue are quite captivating.  Tile Addict, it must be said, is a fan and thoroughly approves of this Tile of the Year selection.

  1. A great choice. Blue hues are clearly very popular at the moment and these tiles bring in many of the nuances that are unique to ceramics. They remind me of the traditional English ‘Staffordshire Blue’ engineering bricks that built many of Brunel’s famous bridges back when our railways were a matter for national pride! (fortunately Ketley and Ibstock still make the bricks). You mentioned Cersaie: I was very disappointed to see that the rest of the industry is even more focused than ever on imitation stone and wood rather than expressing ceramic materials as, low and behold, ceramic materials! 1. Alexis. If you have read my comments over the years in TSJ, Tile Today and the blog, you will know that I couldn’t agree more. That’s why I try to bring companies like Mutina, etc, to the forefront. Glad to find a fellow enthusiast in cutting-edge ceramic tiles, Joe
