Flamboyant Flowerburst

A new, colourful celebration of life has been created at the maternity centre in the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. Master of vibrancy and London designer Adam Nathaniel Furman has demonstrated his signature zest with a playfully tiled “flowerburst” mosaic in the centre’s entrance and reception area.

With a donation from the Reuben foundation, the hospital was able to reach out to Furman and comission the piece that will create an entirely new atmosphere, evoking feelings of positivity and joy in patients and staff.

The artist took appropriate inspiration from spring, a time of “birth and rebirth”, and has titled the sequence of artworks “Radiance”. The waterjet-cut ceramic tiles feature a variety of shapes and patterns alongside their bold, vibrant colouring. The designs flow into one another in a series of abrupt, straight lines and curved, almost floral strokes.

The tiles themselves were manufactured in Stoke-on-Trent by The Surface Design Studio who designed the unforgettable cartoon-look wooden swimming pool, and their printing skill provided the powerful shades specified by Furman.
