With ultra-large porcelain panels such as 1,800 by 3,600mm apparently dominating the major global tile exhibitions of late, it is easy to overlook that there has been a significant revival of traditional, small format, glazed tile of late. It is great to see such ‘traditional’ tile forms making their presence felt, because ceramic tiles are, and should be, a diverse and adaptable surface option.

One of the leading lights in small formats, Ceramica Senio, has just presented a new collection – Mediterranea – inspired by the evocative colours of the Mediterranean landscapes.

Mediterranea, mainly suitable for wall tiling, is a double-fired wall tile range comprising modular sizes: cm 200 by 200, 98.5 by 98.5, 48.5 by 48.5 and 48.5 by 200mm … or, in old money 8in by 8in, 4in by 4in, 2in by 2in and 2in by 8in. Takes you back!

This collection is perfect for both modern and traditional environments and gives the possibility to personalize the spaces with hand-made special pieces and mosaics.

The extensive colour range includes bianca luna, bianco lacatto, beige sabbia, cotto, caramel medio, caramel chiara, caramel scuro, azzurro Maldive scuro, bleu aviatore, bleu cobalto, bleu oltramare, giallo, rosa salmone, vinaccia, verde cedro, verde mela, verde smeraldo, verde tropici scuro, acquamarina, Turchese and grigio.

The surface is distinguished by the brilliance and depth of the craquelé glaze. And, thanks to their modular sizes, the Mediterranea collection can be combined with Senio’s established Bridge range of larger 200 by 600mm tiles, or 8in by 24in.
