Tempting Tactile Textures

Homeowner are always looking for innovative ways to add a sense of intrigue to their interiors. One way to achieve this is texture.  Using a mix of surfaces to add depth and character to the home, and the current generation of fabric-effect tiles means that this can be achieved without adding to the maintenance and cleaning burden.

Due to advances in high definition inkjet printing, tile manufacturers are now able to recreate even the most intricate of details on linen, textile and other fabric-effect tiles. These new textile-effect ceramics are very versatile. With their neutral colour scheme and raised structures, they fit well into a number of key trends, tapping into the movement towards softer, more feminine designs.

Manufacturers are beginning to explore a wide range of materials as inspiration from carpet-effects through to hessian weaves and even lace: all of which bring a tactile quality to walls.  Many of the current fabric-effect tile ranges are quite quiet and understated; but it is likely that more exuberant and confident collections will emerge over the next 12 months.

Regarding flooring applications, carpet-effects are really striding forward.  They offer similar design aesthetics to real carpet, but provide the advantages of being easy to install, clean and maintain.  They also work well with underfloor heating … a real bonus.

For walls, Jacquard textile-effects with added lustre since they can reflect light quite beautifully.  This results in a quite unique finish that complements many design schemes.  Natural woven fabric-effects, with an added gloss or shimmer, can also bring understated charm to the bathroom.
