Laurie Salvador: An appreciation

At Cevisama, Diary of a Tile Addict learnt the sad and shocking news that Laurie Salvador, the creative force behind Nanda Tiles, had recently passed away. DOATA rarely writes obituaries, but Laurie was no ordinary lady, so Joe Simpson is proud to offer an appreciation of one of the ceramic tile sector’s defining characters.

Laurie Salvador: One of the ceramic tile sector’s true originals.

Laurie was a dedicated and passionate professional who made an indelible mark on the tile industry in a career that spanned over 40 years. During the last 15 years at Nanda Tiles she established a growing reputation for her eye for detail, respect for ceramic tradition, mastery of pattern and colour, and – above all – her willingness to defy convention and follow her own instincts. She championed decoration and dynamic design in an era defined by monochrome minimalism.

Creative to the last, Nanda’s stand at Cevisama featured stunning new ranges like Atelier, Andalusia, Alhambra, and Magnolia: a fitting legacy for such a free and creative spirit.

Of course, Laurie was far more than just a talented designer. Nanda Tiles reflected her belief in the importance of family. She shared her creativity, talent, and unwavering commitment with her husband, Carlos, and daughter, Elizabeth, who intend to continue to build on Laurie’s legacy of high level customer service and design excellence.

“All of us at Nanda, our partners Mary and Guido, my dad and I, are dedicated to continuing the work she was so passionate about, ensuring that everything we do moving forward reflects the high standards she set,” explains Elizabeth Salvador.

“I have had the privilege of working very closely with my mom over the past few years, and her passion and dedication have deeply inspired me to carry on her legacy. Moving forward, I will be your point of contact, and I am fully committed to upholding the standards she set. We are truly grateful for your support and the trust you’ve placed in us throughout the years. If you have any questions or need assistance, please feel free to reach out,” Elizabeth concluded in a letter to Nanda’s customers.

Diary of a Tile Addict was privileged to have known Laurie. Her legacy shone through strongly at Cevisama and DOATA are confident that Nanda will continue to flourish under Elizabeth and Carlos’s guidance.
