Hints of Hanji

Bridging the gap between wallpaper and tile, French fabric and wall covering specialists Élitis present Hanji. This collection takes inspiration from Hanji – durable Korean paper made from the inner bark of the mulberry tree with varying types traditionally used to cover doors, floors, and walls, as well as create book covers and writing paper.

Art in both 2D and 3D forms are also created using Hanji with some layering coloured papers to create images, forming a paste similar to papier-mâché, or cording and weaving strips of Hanji to make household objects like baskets or mats.

With the collections from Élitis, Hanji is displayed in a variety of forms. Made entirely from paper pulp, raw textures in neutrals and gold form decors for the walls. With Koshi, these decors appear as individual squares, subtly ridged in an array of directions, designed to be rotated and alternated to form an intriguing textured checkerboard.
