Swapping sketchbooks for clay, Cheltenham native Alice Johnson took her studies in illustration and turned them into a tactile practice, forming a series of charming hand-crafted ceramics.

Statues, vases, plates, and candlesticks are her usual offerings, but a few collaborations have born a wonderful array of tiles. Working with her Pottery Pets alter ego – the place you go to have your furry friends immortalised in ceramic – Johnson created a small selection of delightful dog tiles featuring characterful pups decorated in an eclectic range of glazes.

With Mimmo Studios – a stylish boutique store run by Lil Gardiner and Katie Brown – the tile designs are drastically different. Playful florals, hand painted tartan, and colourful swirls form adorable art pieces with irregular edges and imperfect details enriching each tile with comfort, joy, and a retro soul.

Alice Johnson’s tiles are designed for use as coasters or wall hangings, although with some creative grouting they could probably be installed permanently too.
