Plymouth Pattern

British Ceramic Tile is supporting for the next generation of designers at Plymouth College of Art with a London Fashion Week inspired tile competition.  The UK’s largest tile manufacturer set students on the BA Printed Design & Surface Pattern course a challenge to design a fashion-inspired tile using a textile-based pattern.  The fashion-forward students were asked to tap into spring/summer 18 fashion trends, or use their own design research, to create a design that could be translated to tiles for use at London Fashion Week.

Heidi Wyett created the winning design, creatively embracing the pretty garden trend, with flower-inspired light and dark prints. For her prize she received two tickets to the London Fashion Week Festival taking place in September.  The winner was chosen by British Ceramic Tile’s Head of Design, Claire O’ Brien, and Marketing Manager, Jayne Adamson.

Jayne commented: “We were really impressed with Heidi’s approach to the brief, particularly with the additions she made, demonstrating that she had thought about how to make a good design better, something which we constantly challenge ourselves with.”

Claire added: “It’s inspiring to work with students on these types of projects, and very rewarding. It’s something we will continue to do – we are always thinking of ways we can get involved with the college, and really push the boundaries of the students’ creativity.”
