Ape Grupo’s new Arka collection combines relief, colour and a satin finish to create ceramic surfaces with rhythm and a distinctive expressiveness.  Combining smooth tiles and relief pieces in two formats, Arka offers great compositional freedom.

The collection draws on the traces that time leaves on stone, metal, and mineral pigments. Erosion, patinas, and the chromatic variations inherent in these materials are translated into ceramics from a contemporary perspective.

Arka’s character emerges from the dialogue between the tile surface’s relief and light. Its satin finish captures illumination subtly, while the different geometries generate subtle shadows and reflections.  Depending on the angle and intensity of the light, new visual variations emerge. Even a monochromatic composition can take on different readings and alter the atmosphere of a space.

The Arka range combines smooth tiles with three relief designs: Arka, Ona and Forma.  These can be used independently or integrated. The 58 by 116mm and 116 by 116mm formats multiply the installation possibilities.  The tiles can be used in a calm, regular rhythm or take on a more expressive presence through a combination of geometries, orientations, and textures.The colour palette comprises ten shades: the luminosity of White and Bone; the earthy warmth of Cotto; the mineral nuances of Steel and Silver; the intensity of Blue, Green, and Teal; the depth of Night; and the distinctive character of Golden.  Combined with the satin finish and relief surfaces, each colour establishes a different relationship with light. 

With Arka, colour, format, and texture are combined within a common language that can adapt to understated, minimalist schemes or compositions with a stronger visual presence.
