If you are looking for innovation in wall tile design, the metro tile may seem an unlikely destination. After all, this is one of the long-established staples of the tile retailer’s arsenal, alongside quarry tiles, black and white contrasts, and simulated marbles.
But the design team at Colorker clearly have other ideas. And the fruits of their R&D shone brightly at Coverings to deliver a collection that has clear and immediate commercial potential, and should establish itself as a global best seller in the years ahead.
Three things stand out about the range. The first is the well chosen palette. This colour selection may not be revolutionary but, with the added attraction of wonderful metallics, is right on the money for todays market. The second is that this is a range that has clearly been designed to work with, and take advantage, of the current generation of coloured grouts. This adds real impact at the point of sale … thus the prospect of a valuable extra sale for retailers. But finally, and most importantly, this is a range that explores the metro tile’s 3D potential for design with contrasting border colours that help project the decorative facing into the room, while creating a series of dynamic frames. Like all the best ideas it is simple, effective and very versatile.
On its Coverings stand, Colorker gave star billing to this new metro-style bevelled tile; the Metropolitan collection. Perhaps the most retro design to date from the Colorker Group’s hugely impressive ZYX brand (http://www.colorker.com/eng/new/zyx-has-arrived-the-new-colorker-group-brand), these tiles offer a trip back in time … while at the same time reinventing a great icons of ceramic design – one that is redolent of urban Paris and London at the turn of the 20th century.
Its 100 by 200mm format, and its extensive range of colours, ranging from neutral to coral shades, vibrant blues and turquoises, with different textures and effects such as metals, marbles, woods and concretes, vastly increase the value and versatility of this superb new range, making it a tool for creativity and experimentation by design professionals and home owners alike. If Tile Addict had to choose just one tile range from Coverings for retail greatness ZYZ’s Metropolitan would get the Tile Addict vote by a clear margin.
