Ombre Walkway

The vibrant magical mind of Adam Nathaniel Furman has blessed us once more with some spectacular ceramics.

Covering the columns of the ground level of an office building in Croydon, Furman has created what he’s called a “porcelain palace for the people”, decorating the thoroughfare in a wonderfully textured ombre artwork.

Croydon Colonnade consists of sixteen 25ft columns and a few of the building’s external walls, each of which is thoughtfully topped and tailed in three dimensional handmade tiles.

A duo of unusual shapes inspired by Durham Cathedral play with shadow and form and alternate across the columns that rise from the ground in a rich Majorelle Blue before fading at average head-height into sky tones and eventually into white.

The irregularities and imperfections of each tile tell of the craftsmanship required to create the pieces, displaying uniqueness across every inch of the artwork and culminating in a space that speaks lovingly to Croydon.
