Accidentally making it a habit to post a collection like this every few years, it appears the time has come to share five more wonderful cafés full of tremendous tiles. For previous tiled café round-ups click here or here.
1. Blue Bottle Coffee in Shanghai, China
Designed by Keiji Ashizawa Design, Blue Bottle Coffee’s interior is given depth and drama with a dark and moody wash of 13,000 traditional Chinese roof tiles. From an elegant feature wall to the curving bar, these stunning textural tiles add both beauty and a sense of heritage to this simplistic space.

2. Kate’s Ice Cream in Portland, USA
Playful, pastel, and picture perfect, plant-based ice cream shop Kate’s Ice Cream is a vision of delectable design. Created by Casework with tiles from Fireclay Tile, the interior invites you in with a joyful mural, bubble lights, and a trio of tiles forming an ombre bar.

3) Café Tengo in Cornwall, England
The exterior of this St Austell cafe is rippling in both tone and texture. Three dimensional bulbs bubble out of the edges, housing tiny plants and creating pops of green contrast to the koi fish colour scheme inspired by the St Austell quarry. These bespoke tiles were created by Teamwork Italy who worked together with Studio HOTmess to honour the local area and produce “a spatial ceramic response”.

4) Caffettiera Caffé Bar in Montreal, Canada
Oozing with nostalgia, this Canadian cafe designed by Ménard Dworkind encourages conversation with comforting touches from the past. A vintage Vans-inspired black and white checkered floor is paired with playful 50s pastels, and curves and keepsakes from the 90s for a retro space that sends everybody back in time.

5) Dar el Bacha in Marrakech, Morocco
Unsurprisingly, this Moroccan cafe has exceptional tiles. Located in the Dar el Bacha Palace, this boutique coffee shop has an enchanting, Wes Anderson feel. A checkered stone floor grabs the eye whilst traditional Moroccan zellige decors run beneath ornate arches as rich wooden cabinets line the walls, brimming with chic packages of Bacha coffee.
