Five fantastically tiled cafe interiors

Creating an atmosphere to enjoy the perfect coffee is an art. So many unique spaces with their own ambience and attitude can be found around the world, but as Tile Addicts we have a special interest in those that incorporate tile in wonderful ways. So we have compiled a little list of some of our favourites.

1. Elixir Bunn in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

This cafe is a celebration of coffee, awash with warm nutty browns, texture variations, and curved accents. The speckled terrazzo flooring offers a foamy lightness with flecks of browns, blacks, and greys that tie the space’s assorted surfaces together. The beautifully charming space designed by AZAZ Architects reflects the region’s coffee tradition whilst elevating the coffee-drinking experience.

2. 1 Finsbury Avenue Square in London, England

British designer Morag Myerscough created this colourful cafe in keeping with the bold refurbishment project by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris. Her distinctive style is translated into the bespoke ceramic tiles that envelope the space, creating a playful place to enjoy a coffee.

3. And Y in Rostov-on-Don, Russia

Strangely it is the bathroom of this cafe that is the standout space. Although the cafe interior has its own stylistic merits, with clean white tiles and distinctive, moveable orange furniture pieces, the commode cannot be beat. Upon entrance, customers are met with a whimsical burst of cowprint that coats the room from head to toe. Designed by Russian architect Eduard Eremchuk, the limited space is no issue, and the resulting space fantastically combines surprise, humour, and futurism.

4. Brew92 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

The Scandinavian feel of this cafe has many elements that help divide the space into various relaxing spaces to enjoy a coffee. Designed by Liqui, Brew92 is light and airy, incorporating natural elements – such as blues, wood, and vegetation – to create a tranquil setting.

5. Angelot in Hangzhou, China

This cafe is a tiled treasure, with custom curved rectangular white tiles making up the facade and welcoming visitors into the creative interior. Design firm Say Architects utilised a soft colour palette that is delightfully minimal with white terrazzo flooring, a counter of large sandstone blocks, and white marble worktops. Large concrete walls, curved to mimic the look of curtains, add a warm, yet sterile, element to the space.
