Micro combines tiling tradition with technology

Agrob Buchtal have collaborated with designer Sebastian Herkner on Micro: an elegant tile collection that features a warm, mineral-inspired base, fine lines, grids, and squares. The aim was to achieve a deliberately understated, subtle, and adaptable design.

With a keen sense for materials, colours, and textures, Sebastian Herkner combines new technologies and traditional craftsmanship in his award-winning designs. His goal is to highlight the beauty of the material and draw attention to subtle details. For him, Micro means focusing, zooming in, and discovering hidden details. The deliberately simple look of the basic tiles is given subtle visual elegance by three classic designs: lined, checked, and chequerboard (Lines, Mesh, and Square). From a distance, the delicate patterns blend into the background. Up close they are reminiscent of textile fabrics.

The austerity of the fine geometry is gently broken by the natural character of the basic look, creating a surprisingly soft impression. The result is a convincingly homely tile collection that is ideal for use in entrance halls, kitchens, and bathrooms.

The colour range of the seven basic tiles offers muted, light, and medium mixed shades includes warm beige and brown tones, neutral grey tones with a low colour content, and the extra dark shade, Lava. Each basic colour is assigned an accent colour used to delineate the different patterns.

Micro comes in many formats. The floor tiles formats are 50, 150, 300, and 600 by 600mm, plus a generous 600 by 1,200mm format that can be used in a variety of room situations. Stair tiles in two formats, skirting boards and a 50 by 50mm mosaic, complete the portfolio.

The decorative tiles all measure 600 by 600mm. A highlight is the matching 100 by 600mm coving skirting board, which provides a clean transition from wall to floor in the truest sense of the word: the aesthetic moulding is not only particularly attractive to look at, but also very easy to clean.

Micro thrives on visual and tactile effects. Very versatile, it can be combined in many playful ways. It is timeless and sophisticated rather than following short-lived interior design trends. “Everything fits together with Micro,’ says Herkner, ‘a timeless, understated design in durable, high-quality ceramic.”
