The administrators of collapsed flooring distributor Headlam Group have sold Domus Tiles through a pre-pack deal that safeguards 112 jobs. Chris Pole and Will Wright of Interpath completed the sales immediately following their appointment. Terms of the deals have not been disclosed.

Domus Tiles, a distributor of premium tile and flooring products supplying interior designers, architects and corporate customers, operates six showrooms in Battersea, Clerkenwell, Birmingham, Glasgow, Manchester and West Molesey. The administrators, appointed on 27th October, sold the business and assets to Domus Group London, a company owned and led by Domus’s existing management team, in a management buyout. All 112 Domus employees will transfer to the purchaser.

Melrose Interiors, a specialist manufacturer, importer and distributor of rugs and associated flooring products, has also been sold to the Jain family group of UK distribution companies, with 35 employees transferring to the purchaser. The Jain family has completed 12 business rescues since 2006, including Eliza Tinsley and Avocet Hardware, and plans to invest in stock and technology to strengthen Melrose’s competitiveness.

Chris Pole, joint administrator, said: “We are pleased to have concluded these transactions, which safeguard the future of Domus and Melrose, both successful and highly respected parts of the wider Headlam Group. The transactions ensure continuity of service for customers, protect ongoing relationships with suppliers and, importantly, secure the jobs of 147 employees across the two companies.”
Domus opened a new Clerkenwell showroom on Thursday 16th September. The showroom is located on the site of the former J&A Café bar building on Sutton Lane, in the heart of Clerkenwell. Nestled between Great Sutton Street and Clerkenwell Road, the showroom is accessible from both streets, situated halfway along the Sutton Lane passageway that faces The Slaughtered Lamb pub.

Set back behind the 1930s industrial warehouse buildings of Great Sutton Street, the showroom occupies an old annexe building. The original single-storey annexe structure has been modified with a first floor and two outdoor spaces while retaining the unique character of the existing building and immediate area on Sutton Lane to become an innovative, forward-thinking showroom — a space that better serves our clients’ needs in the post-pandemic era.
