Continuing my guide to the must-see factories at Revestir, I really must mention Manufatti. This iconic Brazilian company offers a wide and differentiated portfolio of cogobos and other ceramic pieces: all hand-made, piece by piece. These awesome products are available in various colours; with glazed, frosted, gloss, metallic and bespoke finish options.
At Revestir, there are always a handful of manufacturers showing perforated ceramic tile screening tiles, normally 40mm thick, that feature symmetric or asymmetric voids surrounded by a frame. In Brazil, they are called cogobó: a term for pierced construction elements, usually made of cement, that are used to construct screens or walls for residential, commercial or industrial use. Cogobos allow the passage of air and light, while at the same time providing privacy and protection. Initially, only made of cement, they are now being produced in other materials, such as glass and ceramic.
Externally they provide semi-private screening for outdoor kitchens, external swimming pools or sun terraces. Internally, they can be used as a dado height dividing wall or as a floor-to-ceiling room divider.
And Manufatti is the absolute masters of these special 3D elements. Typical is the Geometria range, that was launched in five designs: Pyramid, Spear, Right, Triangle, and Diamond. This range focuses on ceramic and glazed elements, with special finishes, colours and forms: truly inspirational.
Manufatti also offers other striking 3D form and geometrics such as triangles, diamonds and hexagons. Can’t wait to see what Manufatti has in store for me this year!
