Amoeba Tiles

Spending hours and hours on Instagram, trawling through countless designs, interiors, and artworks, it’s always a welcome sight to find something truly weird and wonderful. And that’s exactly what we stumbled across with the work of Angela Evans.

Although much of her tile art leans towards 3D fruits and vegetables, perfect for kitchen decor, there is one collection in particular that couldn’t help but tickle our tile-addicted fancy – the Amoeba Tiles.

For the tile artist, test tiles are a vital step in the process, ensuring the correct colours and effects will be achieved before committing to a full batch. But in 1992 Angela Evans made them into something much more than a means to an end.

With an artistic eye and a love for repetitive actions and all things small, the unusual shapes and colours of microscopic amoeba became the ultimate muse. Little batches of these adorably quirky tiny tiles have been arriving on the scene for well over 20 years (shamefully not reaching the Tile Addicts until recently!), each hand made and hand painted so that, as in nature, each one is completely unique.

We love them all and can’t wait to get our hands on a few.
