Rondine’s Inwood range features ceramic surfaces with a charmingly rugged feel to both sight and touch. The six colour options, with their attractive warm tones, have been selected to bring out the natural essence of wood in all its beauty and imperfection. The tiles’ shade variations are capable of creating different moods depending on how they are laid. Continue reading Walking In A Wooden Wonderworld

When they first order Indigo, Novoceram’s customers will find that fate selects the contents of the collection’s boxes. Some will have a few more Little Red Riding Hoods and a fewer bespectacled dogs, but the final effect will always be perfect. And it is precisely this random distribution that makes each and every Indigo composition unique. Continue reading Sacré Bleu: Novoceram’s Mood Indigo

The current vogue for all things terrazzo has proved a strange personal experience. When I was just 18 months old, way back in 1961, my family moved to a new house that my parents had had designed and built, largely using reclaimed materials, to be our forever family home. Continue reading Inviting Inclusions
Woodstock by Ceramica Portinari looks like a painted timber board with a visible grain pattern. It is a very commercial design because it can work equally well alongside natural stone, embossed wallpaper, paint, gloss wall tiles or concrete-effect floor tiles. Continue reading Mellifluent Monotones

Stepping on to the impressive Grespania stand, one was faced by presentations of ceramics and porcelain floor and wall tiles, alongside one-piece kitchen worktops formed from ceramics slabs, achingly stylish Danish tables with Laminam table tops, and giant Laminam slabs that stretch the definition of tiles to 1,200 by 3,600mm … some stretch and quite beyond belief if I cast my mind back to my first Cersaie 25 years ago. Continue reading What Is A Tile?

With the additional element of three chromatic variations, the Origini range from Imso Ceramice also includes original ‘broken’ decorative pieces, that look as if they have been smashed and then put together again. Tile surfaces resembling natural textures have been around for some years now. One influence remains natural fibres, such as seagrass and coir, but the relief surfaces have become subtler, with new decoration techniques giving a false perception of depth of relief: thereby improving the cleanability of the tile’s surface. Timber effects are still surprisingly prominent. The look now is more towards simulating distressed and aged timber floors, and the darker hues of heat-treated woods and exotic rain forest timbers. In terms of format, the trends is away from parquet-effects towards larger planks – just as it is in the actual wood flooring market today. Continue reading Turning Back The Years: Pt 2
As the French would express it: “Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose!” Cersaie 2007 was like déjà vu, all over again … only more so, if you get my drift. The powerful influence of the Russian market was clearly in evidence again, while the decorative themes of 2006 were refined and repackaged: notably baroque, feminine florals and mosaics. However, pundits who had predicted a general colour revival were sadly disappointed. Today, it seem, Henry Ford is back in control of the painting pool. Continue reading Turning Back The Years
