Leading UK tile distributor CTD Tiles can now offer customers a range of ceramic superhero creations made of tiles. Callum Pearson, a tiling student at Leeds College of Building and a contestant at the recent UK National Final of SkillBuild 2017, has collaborated with CTD to create a fan art mural made entirely of tiles.

Callum, an apprentice at family run bathroom and kitchen installation company, D Pearson Bathrooms & Kitchens, has created Night Vigilante; a tiled mural inspired by popular culture. His design is now part of Pixel Pop, a new range of fan art packs, inspired by popular comics, games, films and TV programmes. Taking this idea forward, CTD’s customers can now purchase packs that contain all the tiles needed for a specific design, as well as a downloadable layout pattern.

A video – http://www.ctdtiles.co.uk/p-7526-night-vigilante-bundle-120-tiles-x-150x150x65mm.aspx – shows how Callum recently flexed his tiling muscles to create his pixelated mural in under four hours. This task also allowed him to practice for the UK national final of SkillBuild 2017, which took place from 16th to 18th November.

Steve Roberts, Callum’s tutor at Leeds College of Building, said: “We find working with companies a really valuable experience for both the college and its students. Some of our tutors starred in BBC’s To Build or Not To Build, a TV show that helped guide self builders through a wide range of construction related trades. Collaborating with CTD Tiles has given Callum some hands-on experience to create a challenging design which will really help him when he competes in the SkillBuild UK national final.”

The Pixel Pop range allow customers to recreate characters from comics, films, games and TV programmes in tile. There are eight designs available: Green Galactic Genius, Green Giant, Magical Baby Horse, Night Vigilante, Red Italian Plumber, Sir Superspeed, Space Soldier, and Thunder Warrior. Each design pack contains a blueprint of the easy-to-follow design, as well as all of the tiles required, selected from the Reflections by Gemini range of gloss glazed ceramic tiles. Prices start at £39.99.
CTD’s Tracy Hildreth says: “Fan art has become increasingly popular over the years and we believe that everyone will enjoy our whimsical take on nostalgia. We wanted to create something that would delight and excite our customer base and we believe our customers will quickly fall in love with these characters.”
