Holidays in Wannsee

Pixel perfect scenes of daily life spread a touch of vintage joy at the Berlin-Wannsee train station. Created by Christoph Niemann and unveiled in 2018, two parallel murals welcome visitors with sweet stories and charming tableaux.

Almost 20,000 100 by 100mm tiles were used to create the two 40 metre long storyscapes with a retro palette creating comfy vibes. Drawing on and continuing the NYC subway theme that decorates his children’s bathroom, Niemann embraces the abstraction that comes with his chosen medium.

Despite their blocky appearance, there is character aplenty in each figure living gaily on the wall. Babies, dogs, sunburnt holiday makers, and folk swimming in Wannsee lake live opposite people in coats and mittens standing in the snow, trees, and buildings.

There is an undeniable sense of fun to be had, with new things to be found everytime you walk past. Look, search, and enjoy the view!
