Six unexpectedly lovely insect tiles

Cats, dogs, and sealife have all had their own little home here so today it’s time to celebrate some of the world’s unsung heroes of beauty – bugs!

1) Bee & Skep

From the fabulous Grow House Grow, Bee & Skep shines a spotlight on these vital insects, emphasising the importance they’ve held throughout history, not only in the natural world, but as spiritual symbols.

2) Scarabeau

In two sizes and three dimensions, New Terracotta‘s Scarabeau tiles – designed by Paulo Vale – invent an entirely new way to tile. With their shapely beetle bodies forming the individual tiles, entire walls can be covered in unending waves of wonder.

3) Garden Insects

The artists at Decorum Tiles have translated various winged creates onto ceramics, giving space to the humble bee, the magical dragonfly, and the many faces worn by elegant butterflies.

4) Scarabs

Creating a mix and match marvel out of the silhouetted forms of numerous impressive beetles, Popham Design‘s Scarabs tiles are a wonderfully simplistic take on bug decor, letting their legs and exoskeletons do the talking.

5) Cucaracha and Ants

Amongst his many wildly whimsical designs of lobsters, frogs, and flowers, Jeff Shelton has also made space for a few bugs. Some more obviously beautiful – like the bee or the butterfly – and others unexpectedly joyful – like the cockroach and the ant.

6) Victorian

Designed with the Victorian era in mind, this intensely unique collection from Mary Katrantzou decorates elegantly embellished marble with vibrant butterflies, wings splayed in all their glory.
