Five companies to to keep an eye on VI

It’s five more from around the world today, some we’ve known for a while and some that are new on our radar.

1. Fireclay Tile

California-based Fireclay Tile has been churning out tiles since 1986. Each tile in their collection is handmade, and each of their many glazes are hand mixed. With modern looks from their Metropolitan collection, Farmland-inspired designs from Agrarian, or plain, simple, and beautifully coloured, Fireclay Tile is a tile-world treasure.

2. Smink Studio

We’ve been big fans of designer Marianne Smink for many years. The inherent imperfection of her tiles offers layers of personality, and a beautiful artisan look. Both the watercolour look of her screen-printed tiles and the 3D accents of her relief tiles have an understated quality that is both fabulously decorative, and calmly subtle.

3. ClΓ© Tile

Started by fellow tile enthusiast Deborah Osburn, ClΓ© is a hub of elegant, select tiles designed by a range of gifted artists. Ranging from zellige to terracotta, and stone to decorative cement, there is so much variety with so much style.

4. Sensitile

The striking qualities of light play a huge part in the surface solutions from Sensitile. Geometric shapes, etched materials, embedded LEDs, and designs of depth perception are used throughout the Sensitile portfolio, with interior dividers, tiles, worktops, and artworks all created from the curious glittering materials.

5. Maitland & Poate

This London-based company offers a range of cement tiles and hand-painted tiles with a vintage vibe, as well as some of the finest reclaimed tiles from all around Spain, France, and Belgium, including some that are over 200 years old. With striking looks from the 60s, classic designs from the 40s, and terracotta from the 1890s, Maitland & Poate can make any antique dream come true.
