Cow-print Café Commode

The bright orange furniture is not the only ‘out there’ statement made in this new Russian cafe. Situated near the Don State Public Library in Rostov-on-Don, this entirely tiled cafe has a few fun surpises up its sleeve for the many visiting students.

And Y struggles with the same issue that faces many city-based establishments, that of limited space. To solve this problem, young Russian architect Eduard Eremchuk commissioned the hard-to-miss mobile furniture which can be moved and manipulated to create a variety of seating solutions. The vibrant orange works boldly against the white interior, taking minimalism and giving it a little twist.

But in the bathrooms the focus was less on the issue of space, and more so on the element of surprise and humour. The fully tiled restrooms are head-to-toe cow print with not even the door escaping the pattern. Simple white taps minimise the intrusion of plumbing in this blast of bovinity whilst the mirror allows the pattern to repeat infinitely.

It’s a fun shock for unwitting customers and demonstrates an additional element of whimsy in this futuristic-inspired establishment.
