Today we have a proudly Zimbabwean tile company to share with you – Burnt Earth Designs. With a small group of masterfully talented craftsmen, Burnt Earth Designs create an incredible range of decorative, relief, and plain tiles that would enliven any interior.
Stunning inky glaze effects and a simple use of shapes form the huge number of designs available, each unique, and each bearing the mark of their gifted creator. A mix between the earlier work of Lubna Chowdhary, and the artisanal tiles of Smoke & Fire, Burnt Earth Designs’ pieces have easily made their way into Tile Addict’s favourites.
Their decorative tiles range across the tonal spectrum, offering bold reds, oceanic blues, earth tones, and metallic effects. Similarly their relief tiles demonstrate how simple embossing and a gorgeous glaze are all that’s needed to make an incredible tile.
To make selection a little easier, the company has formed small design families with their Box Sets. Each offer a sample of their many designs, curated to form stylised patchworks with focuses including the abstract Circles, the mixed relief Chitake Springs, the simple Doma Terracotta, and the vibrant Quilted Msasa.
Burnt Earth Designs’ beautiful glazes can be found alone in their plain tiles which offer 20 distinct colours and personalities from the retro speckled Avocado to the powerful Flame Red and from the brushed metal-look Antique Silver to the multitonal Sea Green.
The company also lends its hand to mosaic design and the creation of unique, customisable kitchenware.
