Fabric Foundations

We’ve previously shared the impeccable glaze work of Dutch company Koninklijke Tichelaar Makkum not once, but twice, but it is another of their ceramic offerings that we are sharing today.

Created by two designers – Inge Bečka (porcelain) and Mariëtte Wolbert (textile) – The Ridge Collection is a marriage of their two talents. Making use of Wolbert’s knowledge of fabric, the base of each tile is hand-woven and specifically designed for purpose. This fabric has also been used to form 3D objects.

With the form created through fabric, Bečka then utilises them to create moulds, distorting each piece into unique shapes that celebrate both fabric and porcelain. As for the tiles, the relation to the fabric is clear with ridges and seams meeting as decoration and creating a highly unsual but incredibly captivating surface.

The production of these wonderful tiles is entrusted to Koninklijke Tichelaar, who enhance and elevate the designs with their incredible glazes.
