In Bologna, Italy, Senio Custom Ceramics explored ceramic tile’s historic past during the recent renovation of a Modern Style villa. The owners of Villa Liberty chose to make a conservative intervention, bringing to light the decorative elements typical of the years between the 19th and 20th centuries.
For the interior of the house, two of Senio’s ceramic collections have been used to maximum effect: the Trapunta series in the bathroom and the Tharros series in the kitchen. The authentic design philosophy applied in these locations shines through use of a typical brick-pattern and the choice of warm, complementary colours.
In the bathroom, Trapunta creates a welcoming space, thanks to its soft and full lines, that recall the curvilinear and sinuous shapes of the fixtures, all set off by the Bordeaux base that frames the installation.
The actual tiles featured on this project are Tharros 65 by 260mm Blanco and Pearl in the kitchen; Trapunta, 50 by 150mm moulded Bordeaux dado coving and 10 by 150mm pencil listelli, with 75 by 150mm and 75 by 75mm pillow-form Trapunta Bone plain tiles, and 150 by 150mm Trapuinta Bordeaux as a skirting tile in the bathroom.
The overall effect is simple, elegant, retrained and totally in keeping with the villa’s proud history.
