Spanish company Trencadís Innovación is relatively new, having just over 10 years experience in Trencadis mosaics, but you wouldn’t know that to look at their creations. The shared passion amongst their young team is shown in spades throughout their portfolio, which currently spans five continents.

From the production of the splintered Trencadis tiles to the placement of the design, the work is done by hand by the Trencadís Innovación artisans. Based in Spain, they truly make the best of this Mediterranean tradition, working alongside interior designers, architects, and a range of individuals to produce stunning designs and provide expert advice.

In order to produce the tiles needed for a polished finish, the first step is fabrication, ensuring there are no flaws and the surface is level. Using diamond-edged blades and water saws the tiles are then rectified. The key for Trencadis is breaking the tiles to accurate shaped without causing micro-fissures and altering the appearance of the finish. The highly skilled workers of Trencadís Innovación give precise blows, creating clean break lines.

To create the designs the tesserae are placed piece by piece onto the mesh, with the artisans ensuring equal spacing. They offer a fully customisable service- from signage, to intricate mosaics, to full wall coverings. Their selection varies from textured tesserae and patterns, to simple colours and special glazes.

It’s great to see such a relatively young company completely crack it and create thousands of metres of tremendous Trencadis.
