La Sastrería’s Stunning Interior

This fantastically tiled restaurant with an equally magnificent bar is a Tile Addict’s dream. Designed by a favourite of ours – Masquespacio – these spaces in La Sastrería in Valencia have taken tile to dizzying heights. With the help of Grupo Gastroadictos, the gastronomic dream of chef Sergio Giraldo and bartender Cristóbal Bouchet has come alive.

Starting with the bar, slanted metro tiles in a chic earthy green and plain white decorate the seating area whilst a central table takes the same colours in square/diamond form. The essence of the bar was designed to pay homage to the local neighbourhood, both in architectural references, and in design elements that reflect local life. Most notably an interior recreating the tradition of taking to the streets to enjoy fresh air (Tomar la Fresca), and by taking inspiration from the neighbourhood’s façades, using customised tiles to reflect the homes.

The result is wonderfully striking. This bold space is both harmonious and busy, with plenty for the eye to enjoy. Due to the bar’s inspiration the interior is also able to be both chic and welcoming, familiar and stylish. But that is not all! Despite the bar and restaurant’s emphasis on tile as the decorative surface, they are two entirely separate areas with distinct personalities.

Custom-made with prints designed by Masquespacio were used for the bar zone but for the restaurant the approach was different, with handmade clay and ceramic tiles used to envelope the space. Situated in the maritime neighborhood of Valencia called Canyamelar – Cabanyal, La Sastrería’s restaurant interior superbly interprets the seaside location.

It is in the restaurant section that “the design recreates a huge wave that grows toward the kitchen and is traduced into a sculpture made of ceramic pieces. The floors of artisan ceramic in white and blue makes us experience the division between the water and the sand of the sea, while the chairs designed for the space are a reference to the fishing boats.”

The curves, bends, textures, and curious materials creates a mystical space, designed to be, as Masquespacio’s creative director Ana Hernández puts it, “pure fantasy like Sergio’s dishes.”
