Marvellous Murano

Last month we covered the curious Squar tiles from Giovanni Barbieri, ‘presented’ at Dezeen’s Virtual Design Festival earlier this year. But that wasn’t all the Italian designer had to offer as two additional tile ranges made their mark, one of which we will share with you today.

The Murano Collection is a fantastic mix of handmade terracotta, natural stone, and translucent polished relief inlay Murano Glass. The result is tile meets stained glass, an effect that can be emphasised with the use of LED backlighting.

The range is extensive, touching on many different styles and intricacies, including the modern Oblio and Clas, the traditional looks of Saint Germain, Tefi, and Notre Dame, and the usual DNA and Flora.

The designs have a gorgeous handmade appeal, with the smooth glass inserts offering a unique form of decor that is simply beautiful. Although we’ve only selected two ranges (so far) to talk about, there is so much more for this Vicenza-based designer to offer.
