Granted an honourable mention in the very first APE Grupo Architecture Awards, “Maison Les Marquises” is seamless in its transitions from ceramic to wood, forming a harmony that reflects the building’s position within the surrounding landscape.

The cabin, located in the mountainous Faucon-de-Barcelonnette region in the southern French Alps, is surrounded by pine. Peeking through the trees, the prefab wooden panels gently interrupt the wild nature with an homage.

Designed by local studio Atelier d’Architecture AMASA, founded by Aurore Schaeffer and Alejandro Flores, “Maison Les Marquises” wholly embraces wood as both structure and decor, only breaking to make space for a few pockets of cement and ceramic.

These ceramics, APE Grupo’s Argillae collection, blend effortlessly with the knots and grain of the wood with their warm cosy tones inspired by some of nature’s richest textures like clay, and soil.
