Solus Sets the Sixties Scene

We’re travelling through time with this Solus collection that radiates retro energy. Sixties takes the most iconic shapes and colours – playing with curves, geometry, and psychedelica – to produce a fantastically old school selection. Eight colours, each named after popular singers and groups from the 60s, span a muted palette. Four neutrals from white to black (Kinks, Lulu, Byrds, and Tremeloes) work alongside three … Continue reading Solus Sets the Sixties Scene

Stone Squar[e]

These 3D tiles break the abstract line between interior decor and art. Desiring to produce a collection that offers this artistic freedom to consumers, Italian designer Giovanni Barbieri makes use of relief for his Squar tiles. With an unusual cracked-effect creating levels of shadow and juxtaposed with plain flat tiles, Squar[e] offers a little mystique. In a sequence of supposedly random shapes, Squar[e] produces a … Continue reading Stone Squar[e]

Turning Back The Years: Pt 2

Tile surfaces resembling natural textures have been around for some years now. One influence remains natural fibres, such as seagrass and coir, but the relief surfaces have become subtler, with new decoration techniques giving a false perception of depth of relief: thereby improving the cleanability of the tile’s surface. Timber effects are still surprisingly prominent. The look now is more towards simulating distressed and aged timber floors, and the darker hues of heat-treated woods and exotic rain forest timbers. In terms of format, the trends is away from parquet-effects towards larger planks – just as it is in the actual wood flooring market today. Continue reading Turning Back The Years: Pt 2

Turning Back The Years

As the French would express it: “Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose!” Cersaie 2007 was like déjà vu, all over again … only more so, if you get my drift. The powerful influence of the Russian market was clearly in evidence again, while the decorative themes of 2006 were refined and repackaged: notably baroque, feminine florals and mosaics. However, pundits who had predicted a general colour revival were sadly disappointed. Today, it seem, Henry Ford is back in control of the painting pool. Continue reading Turning Back The Years
