Today we bring you another artist with keen tiling senses. With a mind full of lively creativity and an artistic bent, it is the art of cuerda seca that Laura Drifford now seeks to master.

Most materials used in the creation of Drifford’s work are recycled, including tiles and reclaimed wood. Using these unloved, wasted items give them a new decorative role, becoming unique items full of character.

The recycled materials are often combined, creating spectacular items such as a coffee table with tile inserts, or a hand-painted tile triptych. Other offerings include wonderfully hand-painted items that take full advantage of the tile as canvas. The pieces are fired at Thé Coul in Toulouse, a creative salone geared towards ceramics. Drifford also takes time to teach, offering a monthly internship on the art of azulejos, as well as workshops for children on colour and shape.
