Four years ago in an article titled Top tile trends we hope to see more of our number one pick was all about grout. Taking advantage of this often forgotten bit of real estate by incorporating colour or special shapes can completely change the look of an interior, and even alter the appearance of the tile itself. So today we’re celebrating the collections that go the extra mile when it comes to appreciating grout.
1) Otto & Bottone
A perfect duo by Ronan Bouroullec for Mutina, Otto & Bottone offer up peeps and pockets for glorious grout to sit in and shine. A curved slit or strip of button holes is all you need to elevate a simple metro tile into something outrageously chic. Read more about it here.

2) Fringe
Another Mutina marvel, this time designed by Michael Anastassiades, Fringe makes the most of parallel lines, creating a look akin to a matchstick mosaic. Five sophisticated colours can be jazzed up with any number of colourful grouts whilst the designs – Thin and Bold – can be paired and played with to produce countless looks. Read more about it here.

3) Zip
Beautifully unique and endlessly stunning, Bardelli‘s Zip collection demonstrates how less can be more when it comes to grout decor. A simple strip, waving like a zip along the edge of a tile, matched as a border or elegant feature, is sometimes all you need to make your grout pop. Read more about it here.

4) Cava and Cava Mosaic
One of the first collections to demonstrate how magnificent an intention grout decor could be, Living Ceramics‘ Cava and Cava Mosaic collections by LucidiPevere are designed to emphasise the grout lines in larger tiles and create voids in the mosaics for coloured and contrasting grout to add decoration. Read more about them here and here.

5) Raw
Organic textures meet geometric shapes with Atlas Concorde‘s Raw collection. Numerous patterns with varying grout-centric cavities come in a variety of earthy tones and seaside blues. Made to be dressed up with colour and exaggerated with contrast, these glorious mosaics are perfect for personalisation.
