Regular readers of Diary of a Tile Addict will know that there is nothing I like more than a new restaurant that uses tiles as a central design element. If that restaurant just happens to be located in Rome (or, better still, Bologna) and has a carefully crafted care-worn look that complements the classic simplicity of traditional Italian food, then all my ducks are in a row.

Which brings us to Centro: a traditional restaurant located in Rome – a grocery with a kitchen – designed by architectural studio RPM Proget. The architects specified Ceramica Senio for its wall tiles.

As is clearly shown by the furniture, this restaurant’s style was inspired by the 1960s. Here the ceramic tile wall covering, with its lived-in look, is in perfect harmony with the location and truly transports us back in time.

The wall tiles are characterised by an aged effect and shaded brick look, which is the result of a particular research blending four white shades and five red tones with a high build glaze that reproduces the roughness of aged brick on the surface of each piece.
